Great to meet you!

Hello and welcome to my practice.

My name is Mary Cahill and I am a dual board-certified Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry and Adult Health.

At this time, my clinical focus is psychiatry and the delivery of excellent psychiatric care using the most up to date evidence based research and clinical guidelines, while also providing you with a respectful, compassionate and non-judgemental space.

I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, second opinion evaluations and ongoing medication management.

I have expertise in psychopharmacology, which is considered both an art and a science. And, as such, should be grounded in strong science and a deep understanding of psychopharmacology, but also be a considered and highly individualized process.

In 1997, I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco, graduating summa cum laude.

In 2004, I received a master of science in Nursing from Columbia University where I trained as an Adult and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner.

In 2022 I received a post-masters certificate as a psychiatric nurse practitioner from NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing , where I also did a one year internship at Bellevue Hospital focusing on Inpatient Psychiatry.

My approach to therapy

My theoretical orientation centers on the Carl Rogers philosophy of humanistic person-centered psychology combined with concepts from cognitive behavioral therapy.

Seeking psychiatric care is a significant step to improving one's life, but it can also be vulnerable and scary. My goal is to offer you a space that is safe and accepting.

What you can expect from me

Our initial evaluation is 60 minutes. I take a thorough psychiatric, medical, psychosocial and trauma history to get a real sense of who you are as a person, and to determine an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. In some cases it may take 2 sessions to complete this evaluation.

My medication management sessions are 30 minutes. At every session I review your medications, your response to the medications you have been prescribed, discuss any problematic side effects and make adjustments as needed.
