Great to meet you!

I have a BA in Human Services, and a Masters in Clinical Mental Health counseling. My work experience has included over 15 years of advocacy, crisis care, and case management with a very diverse population of clients.

I am comfortable working with a diverse range of issues, but I specialize in grief, trauma, in particular the treatment of PTSD and anxiety disorders utilizing CBT and somatic therapies such as EMDR and breathwork. I integrate psychoeducation greatly into my work, as I believe clients are empowered when they understand the universal experiences of the human body and brain.

My approach to therapy

I do not believe in a one size fits all approach to counseling, and greatly consider the variety of approaches that may work best for each individual. Good therapy is a blend of interventions that fit well with your personality and your presenting issue.

I am inquisitive, and have seen the power of helping clients identify parts of their distress that they do not recognize from what we call "blind" spots of ourselves. I enjoy helping clients come to different perspectives, finding solutions, working through acceptance and loss, and processing resentment.

What you can expect from me

The first session is a critical time to get to know you, your presenting issue, and a general snap shot of your background. I will often continue some exploration into the second session, if needed, to assure I truly understand what your needs are, where you are coming from.

The most critical question in my first session is understanding your previous experiences in therapy, positive or negative, and how I can assure you are receiving what you want out of therapy. If there are issues you aren't ready to approach, habits or styles of therapists you don't feel comfortable with, or general questions about interventions I may use, this is a great time to discuss those!
