Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Marybeth Smith and I am looking forward to meeting you where you are and helping you grow into who you were meant to be!

I am a licensed professional counselor in WV and have over 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with various mental health and substance use diagnosis. I graduated from Marshall University with a Master’s in Counseling and am also an Approved Licensed Professional Supervisor.

If you are ready to do the work, I am ready to meet you there. I would love to connect.

My approach to therapy

I am warm, inviting and affirming; but also direct, and have high expectations for you! Therapy can be hard! As a counselor I will meet you where you are, whether you are grieving, depressed, anxious or addicted (and anywhere else you may find yourself!); and we will work side by side working toward your goals and desires for your life.

I expect that you show up for yourself in every therapy session and be ready to work toward meeting the goals you have! I am a sounding board, a source of validation, and an explorer of your “truth.” There will be times in therapy that you want to give up, give in to old patterns and behaviors, and thankfully times where you see evidence of growth that fuels your desire to keep going!

What you can expect from me

Our first session is a real conversation, not a checklist. We will talk through what brought you here, what matters most to you, and what "better" actually looks like for your life. I will walk you through how we work together so nothing feels like a surprise. By the end of that first hour, you will have a clearer sense of what we are building toward, and you will know whether working with me feels right.
