Great to meet you!

Greetings, my name is Mary Therese Hafernik, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 4 years of experience supporting individuals through anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, family issues, stress, and women’s issues. I work with people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or ready for meaningful change. Through evidence-based practices, I help clients better understand their emotions, develop practical coping skills, and make lasting changes aligned with their unique goals.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized to each client. I strive to create a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and comfortable exploring what they are experiencing.

I believe therapy should offer both compassion and gentle challenge. While I aim to meet clients where they are, I may also ask thoughtful or difficult questions that help uncover patterns, gain clarity, and move toward meaningful change.

What you can expect from me

Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin identifying what you would like support with. You do not need to have everything figured out before you come in.

During the first session, we will typically talk about what brought you to therapy, what has been going on in your life recently, and any concerns, symptoms, or patterns you would like to work on. I may also ask some questions about your background, relationships, family, health, previous counseling experiences, and other areas that can help me better understand you as a whole person.

By the end of the session, we will usually have a clearer idea of what you would like to focus on and what our next steps may look like.
