Great to meet you!

Hello, I am Mateo Ayala, LPC. I graduated from Texas A&M University-San Antonio with my Master's in Guidance and Counseling in 2016. I have worked 1.5 years in a psychiatric hospital helping people with mental illness. I have worked in alcohol and substance recovery facilities as well as in impoverished and under severed communities. I have several years of focusing on trauma therapy and the last 3 years I have been focusing on anxiety and depression on a telehealth format. I have worked with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. I do utilize EMDR to address trauma, bereavement, anxiety, and pain management.

My approach to therapy

I take a holistic approach to therapy. I address nutrition through diet and supplements to strengthen the parts of the body that deal with stress. Movement to keep the body engaged. Spirituality in whatever way that looks for you to address your connectedness to life and meaning. The main focus of our time together will be working on your thoughts and the painful memories and negative self-beliefs that brought you to counseling. Jungian Therapy, Existentialism, Reality Therapy, and EMDR are the approaches that will be utilized in the counseling session.

What you can expect from me

In our first session I will get to know you a little bit by asking you a series of questions before we address what brought you to counseling. Based on what you would like to get out of therapy will determine the therapeutic approach taken. If you are not sure where you would like to go during therapy that is okay. I will make sure that your concerns are addressed in a therapeutic manner at a pace that is suitable to you. Building rapport is important to make you feel comfortable and safe enough to open up and share what is troubling you. I am not here to make you me, nor to judge you. I am here to help you at whatever stage you are in so that you can get to where you want to be.
