Great to meet you!

Congratulations! You've taken this first, courageous step toward creating a new direction for your life. No doubt you may be feeling a bit anxious about attending therapy if this is a new experience for you. That's perfectly understandable. I want to assure you that you'll be treated with empathy, kindness and respect no matter what issues you may be facing. I am experienced and committed to assisting individuals, couples and families with issues such as anxiety, depression, marital conflict, infidelity, sexual dysfunction, addiction, trauma, abuse, and behavior issues and would welcome the opportunity to collaborate with you. We'll work at your pace and within your comfort level so that you feel safe and understood at all times. Because presenting issues are generally multi-dimensional we will explore them from many different perspectives and use various techniques to reach your therapeutic goals. I am an ordained pastor and am happy to include biblical principles, if you wish

My approach to therapy

Because successful therapy is multi-dimensional, we will explore the presenting issue from many different perspectives to ensure we come to understand it as best we can. But understanding is just the first part of healing. Once we understand the issue, we need to address it, so it no longer is creating the negative impacts you are experiencing. We will work collaboratively, because you are the expert in your life, and tailor interventions, healing and teaching experiences so that you are empowered to make the changes required to create the life you envision for yourself and meet your therapeutic goals. I am very informal, conversational and interactive during sessions and use humor, when appropriate but am always supportive, kind, nonjudgemental and respectful.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, we'll take care of some legal beagle paperwork and get that out of the way. Then, I generally ask for some background information about you personally; family of origin, likes-dislikes, educational background, hobbies, career etc. This helps me begin to understand who you are as an individual and some of the influences that may have shaped the presenting issue but may also clue me in to how to best to approach you and hypothesize about how we might understand, approach the work through the problem most effectively and efficiently.
