Great to meet you!

Hi, my name is Matt. I have been married for thirtysomething years and we have raised twins. I am a licensed therapist and I have been been doing therapy for 18 years (with ten years in Virginia). I've worked in a number of settings over the years, from home and school visits, to a free clinic, to private practice and now tele-therapy.

I have a variety of experience, but my specialties include the different forms of anxiety, struggles with identity and worth, relationship and marriage therapy and spiritual struggles.

My approach to therapy

My approach is to really get to know someone. I believe productive therapy happens in the context of a safe relationship. And a foundational aspect of my approach is that I do not believe that we can adjust, change, or improve something we don't understand. So I pursue to understand rather than "fix". But I believe that understanding is empowering.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, we'll go through the intake questions that help a therapist understand a client's situation and talk about the symptoms you are experiencing. I'll invite you to share about your experience and we'll begin to explore some of your thoughts about things. Then we'll discuss putting together a treatment plan.
