What should your client know about you?I have a lot of training in dialectical behavior therapy and have worked with adults and teens and their families. I've been providing therapy for 9 years, and I'm currently getting a second master's degree to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner. In the past, I've lead a team of social workers that helped people navigate mental health resources, and I've also participated in research on motivational interviewing for people with substance use issues.
What is your approach to therapy?I try to empower people to connect with their own strengths and inner wisdom while offering new skills for responding to painful emotions and difficult life experiences. I try to balance acceptance of how difficult change is and how valid your emotions are, with a commitment to also helping you to make meaningful changes in your life. I use evidence-based therapies that we know work, while always recognizing that everyone's experience is unique and there is no one right path for healing.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?I want you to leave therapy feeling more hopeful, less alone, and with more clarity for how you can deal with difficult situations in a way that is in line with your values and that makes you feel more confident. Whether we are working to overcome suicidal thoughts, other unhelpful or dangerous behavior patterns, or feel more comfortable in your own skin, I am committed to helping you achieve your goals.
