Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Melanie! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and founder of Mae House Counseling, with a master's degree in counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and professional experience spanning school counseling, outpatient therapy, and pediatric inpatient mental health care.

I work with adults and older teens navigating ADHD, burnout, grief, identity concerns, and the challenges of everyday life. I'm especially passionate about supporting adults diagnosed with ADHD later in life, as well as individuals who have spent years feeling different, misunderstood, or exhausted from trying to hold everything together.

As a military spouse myself, I also have a special interest in supporting military spouses through deployments, unexpected changes, and the independence that military life often requires. I believe there's more to people than what we see on the surface, and everyone deserves to have their story heard, understood, and valued.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth, with room for honest conversations, reflection, and even a little humor. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT-informed skills, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and strengths-based, person-centered approaches to meet your individual needs. I'll listen, validate your experiences, and gently challenge you when needed, because sometimes growth means looking at things from a different perspective. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, recognize patterns, and build the confidence to make meaningful changes.

What you can expect from me

Starting therapy can feel a little nerve-racking, and that's okay! Our first session is simply a chance for us to get to know each other and talk about what brought you here. We'll explore what's been going on in your life, what you'd like to work toward, and any questions you may have along the way. There's no pressure to share everything at once or even know exactly where to start. We'll take it one conversation at a time, and my hope is that you leave feeling heard, understood, and a little more at ease.
