Great to meet you!

I love the skin I'm in, and I hope you'll come to love yours too. That's the focus of our work together.

I'm Dr. Melanie McKinney, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Alabama with a doctorate from Auburn University at Montgomery. Before opening my practice, I spent many years as a school counselor, so I've sat with people through just about every kind of struggle, and I know how much it matters to feel accepted exactly as you are.

I work with adults facing anxiety, depression, panic, trauma, grief and loss, stress, anger, and substance use. I also support people navigating family issues, identity and cultural concerns, chronic health conditions or disabilities, and end-of-life questions. I offer telehealth sessions on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings, so therapy can fit around your work and family.

My approach to therapy

I'm a listener before I'm an answerer. I want to understand your story fully before we decide anything together. From there, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you notice the thoughts and patterns that keep you stuck, and to build practical skills for handling them. My goal is to help you feel more confident, more at peace, and more at home in your own skin.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is all about getting to know one another, so don't leave out any details! We'll talk about what brought you in, what life has felt like lately, and what you'd like to be different. You can share at your own pace, and there's no wrong place to start. By the end, we'll have a sense of your goals and how we'll work toward them together.
