Great to meet you!

Hello I'm Dr. Melanie!

I am a PhD, MSN-educated psychiatric nurse practitioner with 15 years of experience. I enjoy working with patients 5 years to 100-plus years of age. I use a number of approaches, including prescribing medication if indicated, but most importantly, I tailor treatment to meet your specific needs.

I'm a native Coloradan and like many Coloradans enjoy the outdoors. It's lucky I have my golden retriever as a companion as he enjoys the same things. My golden retriever will, also, be sitting at my feet for our telehealth sessions. I am a dual licensed and board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I began my graduate study at University of Virginia and completed both my PhD and MSN (my certification as a nurse practitioner) from UVA. I am licensed and have the experience to see patients from 5 years old to over 100+ years old.

I specialize in the following: ADHD (diagnosis, evaluation, and management), treating complex chronic depressive disorder, treating anxiety and depressive disorders, as well as eating disorders and self-esteem in adolescents.

I very much look forward to meeting you soon!

My approach to therapy

I use a holistic approach when I am evaluating new clients. I approach a new client by looking over medical and psychiatric history as well as evaluating functioning on many levels such as in a social (more relaxed context) alongside the context of work and school. I, also, like to evaluate how my clients' feel they are performing in these various contexts- whether they are at their full potential or if they feel they have growth to do. Upon analyzing these various aspects together we can set tangible goals.

I approach medication therapies using the most recent evidence based guidelines and practices.

I approach therapy using motivational interviewing and goal-focused treatment planning. Alongside this I offer comprehensive evaluations for ADHD for adolescents and adults. In order to further enhance the benefits of the medications used to treat ADHD, I can help clients come up with nutritional guidelines that can help their experience.

Our practice is unique as you provider is qualified to provide specialized services, including psychiatric report writing and expert review. These specialized services are approved on a case-by-case basis using the private practice's fee-for-service structure, as it is outside of clinical services covered by healthcare insurance.

What you can expect from me

I aim to create a space where my clients know they are open to share with me while knowing that from me they will have privacy and understanding. I want my clients to envision that they are entering a calm and relaxing space with a gentle warmth surrounding them all the while knowing there will be a strict adherence to confidentiality from the time they first log on and enter the waiting room.
