Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Melissa Caparitia. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Connecticut. I earned my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Mercy College in 2016, along with certification in Substance Abuse Counseling.

Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds to navigate a wide range of challenges including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, family and relationship difficulties, and childhood trauma. As a therapist, I am passionate about helping others become the best version of themselves and supporting them as they work toward their personal goals.

I understand that creating lasting change takes effort and courage. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel empowered to express themselves freely. I meet clients where they are and work at a pace that feels comfortable for them. I believe that every issue has a root cause, and in my Christian counseling practice, I focus on identifying and addressing these core issues to promote lasting healing and growth.

Currently, I am pursuing a Doctorate in Community Care and Counseling with a specialization in Traumatology. The foundation of my practice is a client-centered approach, which emphasizes empathy, mutual respect, and a strong therapeutic alliance. I will work collaboratively with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that meets your unique needs.

Taking the first step toward change can be difficult, but you don’t have to do it alone. If you're ready to begin your journey toward a more fulfilling and meaningful life, I am here to support you every step of the way.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach is person-centered, meaning I prioritize building a strong, trusting relationship with each client and tailor sessions to meet their unique needs. I believe in approaching therapy with a human perspective—recognizing that healing looks different for everyone and honoring each person’s lived experience. My work is also grounded in empathy, compassion, and respect. I draw from evidence-based practices while incorporating elements of Christian counseling and trauma-informed care when appropriate.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental space where they feel safe to explore their thoughts and emotions at their own pace. I meet clients where they are emotionally and mentally, helping them identify root issues and work through challenges with clarity and confidence. Sessions are collaborative—I encourage open dialogue, goal setting, and reflection. My aim is for clients to feel heard, empowered, and equipped to take meaningful steps toward healing and personal growth.
