Great to meet you!

My name is Melissa Mehan and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an Advanced Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor. I have over seven years of experience. I began working in addiction treatment, which then led me to pursue clinical Social Work. I have been at the forefront of providing compassionate and comprehensive care for those battling addiction as well as other mental health struggles. My educational path was not traditional. I attended a performing arts school in NYC, then Sociology in California (CSULB) and Utah (U of U), I did my graduate studies through Louisiana State University.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach is grounded in the latest research and combines individualized treatment plans with a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental environment. My specialty lies in my ability to connect with my clients, understand their struggles, and empower them to achieve living a life they are proud of with purpose. I use a lot of Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) approaches, to encourage my clients to move towards behaviors in line with their values. I use and teach various Mindfulness techniques, to help individuals stay grounded in the present moment, while developing skills to self-sooth and manage stress and anxiety in healthy ways.

What you can expect from me

My commitment to my clients extends beyond traditional therapy sessions. I am an advocate for holistic wellness, integrating innovative techniques that address the physical, emotional, and social aspects of addiction and/or mental health struggles. I am also certified in providing Acudetox, a 5-needle ear acupuncture protocol that can be used during sessions if indicated.

My goal is always to build a good therapeutic relationship while providing a safe and comforting space that allows individuals to be vulnerable, heal, laugh and ultimately to leave feeling empowered and hopeful.
