Great to meet you!

I’m Melissa (she/her), a New York-based licensed clinical social worker. I provide counseling to adults and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, gender/sexuality identity issues, and trauma; I also have significant experience working with people who grew up with narcissistic or emotionally unavailable parents, and helping them heal from these experiences.

A bit about my approach to therapy

I’m here to help you make sense of the most important and significant pieces of your life so we can incorporate them into the narrative of who you are. My approach is validating yet challenging, warm yet accountable. Therapy is hard work but it can also be joyful, vulnerable, and exciting. Most importantly, it’s about creating a relationship with my clients that is honest, affirming, and reciprocal.

What you can expect from our first session

Over time, my clients and I identify patterns in their lives that may or may not be serving them. Often these patterns started in early childhood and continue into adulthood, showing up in ways that we may not have previously realized. Together we look for ways in which to address those patterns, whether by changing them, or learning to accept them. From awareness comes accountability, and therein lies growth.
