Great to meet you!

I have a passion for helping people heal trauma. My background includes training in Somatic Experiencing, neurofeedback, and healing childhood trauma. I earned my BA degree in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of California at Berkeley. For years afterward I traveled the US teaching nonviolent conflict de-escalation workshops. Slowly I began to realize that many of the conflicts being addressed by these trainings stemmed from unhealed trauma. I decided I wanted to prevent violence at the source rather than waiting for it to erupt. This led me to earn my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. I chose that university for its focus on neurofeedback and was able to serve as a clinician for fascinating research using neurofeedback to treat substance use disorders and trauma. In 2023, I became a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and have also assisted at the trainings since then. I appreciate the gentle and empowering approach of Somatic Experiencing, which trusts in the wisdom of the body to navigate through and release stored trauma, given the appropriate space and support. My work today synthesizes all of these experiences. Compassion is the foundation for all that I do and I believe everyone has the power to heal if given the right supportive environment.

A bit about my approach to therapy

I begin by learning about each person I work with. What are their challenges, goals, and strengths? From there, I can begin to craft a plan to address their most pressing concerns. I tend to use mindfulness and body awareness to help people process their emotions. For those interested in neurofeedback, the process begins with a comprehensive brain map called a qEEG. This map highlights which areas of the brain may be dysregulated and together we will decide which corresponding symptoms are of most concern. Then I will design a protocol to help the brain become more regulated. All of this is grounded in a strong alliance with each person I work with. I use my expertise in service of each client’s goals, but each client is the expert of their life, needs, and desires for the direction and how far we go in therapy.

What you can expect from our first session

My goal is that each client leaves the first session feeling more hopeful and empowered. I want my clients to show up however they need to and trust that I will meet them where they are and without judgement. In this safe and nurturing space, they will have greater access to their internal wisdom and together we will find solutions for their concerns.
