Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Micaela Pericone-Kapp, a Doctor of Nursing Practice specializing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I'm passionate about providing advanced care for individuals with ADHD, OCD, PTSD and trauma, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, panic disorders, mood disorders, and bipolar conditions. My doctoral-level training enables me to provide sophisticated, evidence-based treatment for complex mental health challenges. I'm LGBTQ+ identified and provide affirming care for diverse communities.

I chose to specialize in these areas because I understand how these conditions can profoundly impact every aspect of your life, often in ways that feel overwhelming or isolating. Whether you're struggling with ADHD symptoms that affect your work performance, OCD rituals that consume your time and energy, trauma responses that interfere with relationships, or personality patterns that create ongoing difficulties, I bring the advanced knowledge needed to provide effective, compassionate care.

My treatment philosophy centers on understanding you as a complete person, not just a collection of symptoms. I recognize that mental health conditions don't exist in isolation—they interact with your life experiences, relationships, cultural background, and personal goals in unique ways. My approach combines cutting-edge psychiatric interventions with deep respect for your individual journey and values.

You can expect thorough assessment, personalized treatment planning, and ongoing support throughout our work together. You deserve care that truly sees you.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is both deeply personal and firmly grounded in research. I entered this profession because I believe outstanding mental health treatment holds genuine, lasting power to transform lives, and I'm devoted to offering that to every person I serve. I view mental health challenges not as personal failings but as uniquely human experiences that deserve skilled, compassionate attention.

Some people come to me in crisis, others carry long-standing difficulties, and some are navigating major life transitions. Whatever brought you here, I'll honor where you start and partner with you toward the goals that matter most. There is no wrong place to begin.

I practice comprehensive psychiatry, drawing on evidence-based methods to craft individualized treatment plans. Depending on your needs, this might include medication management, cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness practices, lifestyle adjustments, or tailored combinations of these.

I'm especially deliberate with medication. I believe in prescribing with clear intention, starting conservatively where appropriate, and maintaining honest dialogue about benefits and side effects. Medication can be a valuable tool, yet it remains one option among many, never a default solution.

I regard the provider-patient relationship as central to recovery. Research shows the quality of that connection meaningfully shapes treatment outcomes, so I invest fully in forming and preserving that bond. I stay reachable between appointments so your care feels continuous and well-integrated.

My aim is for you to understand your mental health deeply, to recognize what drives your struggles, and to build lasting strategies for whatever life brings. Above all, I want you to feel genuinely supported at every stage of this process.

What you can expect from me

Your first appointment creates a warm, collaborative foundation centered entirely on your mental health and overall wellbeing. You'll be received with genuine curiosity, unhurried attention, and a deep commitment to understanding your story before anything else. This is a place where you can breathe.

We'll begin by exploring what's currently weighing on you—the concerns you're carrying, how they're shaping your world, and what you most hope to achieve through treatment. I'll thoughtfully assess your mental health challenges, including signs of depression such as prolonged low mood, anxiety indicators like persistent worry, disrupted sleep, appetite shifts, low energy, difficulty concentrating, fading motivation, and any distressing thoughts. We'll also examine how these struggles are influencing your professional life, personal relationships, and daily routines.

I'll ask when these challenges first appeared, what tends to trigger them, and any patterns you've noticed over time. Your psychiatric history carries real weight here. I'll review prior diagnoses, treatments you've undergone, approaches you've explored, and any psychiatric medications you've taken—including how effective they were and how your body responded to each.

We'll go through your medical history, covering current conditions, active prescriptions, allergies, and substance use. I'll also explore the emotional and relational dimensions of your life: traumatic experiences, meaningful losses, ongoing stressors, your work environment, relationship dynamics, and the support systems surrounding you.

After building a thorough understanding together, we'll evaluate whether medication may support your healing—weighing your symptoms, history, and personal goals within a safe, compassionate setting. If medication proves appropriate, I'll walk you through your options carefully so you feel informed and confident at every step of the way.
