Great to meet you!

I received my PhD from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology and have experience in community mental health, university counseling center, and hospital settings. I also worked as a professor at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology and as a clinical supervisor for doctoral students before transitioning to my current full-time private practice. I enjoy working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, and I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, and spiritual/faith-related concerns. I believe authenticity and humility are essential qualities in an effective therapist, which is why I am committed to my own ongoing personal growth and development as part of my clinical role.

My approach to therapy

I use a relationship- and depth-oriented approach that I adapt to fit each client's particular needs. This means that while I generally value improving my client’s self-awareness and ability to understand others, the form any particular therapy takes is shaped by the unique interactions between me and the client in front of me. I don’t hesitate in providing honest feedback in alignment with your goals, but I am also generally empathic and warm, and I will always listen to you if you feel misunderstood. I believe my most important therapeutic skill is listening well with my whole self, but I am also quite engaging when the circumstances call for it.

What you can expect from me

My general approach in the first session is to open up as much space as needed for you to share what brings you to treatment so we can explore how therapy can help and whether we seem to be a good fit to work together. Beyond that, the particular form the first session takes is determined by your unique needs. If you feel like you are in a crisis, we can start by helping you stabilize. If you are seeking treatment for an issue that has been going on for a long time, we can help you find where to start, and begin exploring new ways to look at it that help you feel less stuck. If you are unsure about therapy or want to know more about me or my approach, we can take as much time as we need to address your concerns. Whatever the case, you can be confident that when you sit down on my couch, you will be sitting with someone who wants to understand you and to help you make important changes in your life.
