Dr. Michael Okoye

Hearty greetings from me, Michael Okoye, PhD, MSc, MSN, CRNP, PMHNP-BC, ANP-BC, board certified as both Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Adult Nurse Practitioner. I also have a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology (care of older adults), PESI certification as ADHD-CCSP (Certified Clinical Service Provider), and advanced degrees (master’s and PhD) with extensive experience in research and college teaching. I have nearly 15-year experience providing psychiatric/mental and behavioral healthcare in diverse clinical settings that include inpatient behavioral hospitals, correctional institutions, and outpatient and tele-psychiatric platforms. I am the president/CEO of NP Psychiatry & Geriatric Care Consultant, PLLC ---a company focused exclusively in providing psychiatric (medication management) and behavioral care in long term facilities. I precept (teach/mentor) psych nurse practitioner (NP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students, and I provide guest-lecture on psychopharmacology (psych medication management) for a local university’s DNP program. I am a conservative prescriber; I strive for prescriptions that MAKE SENSE and are based on collaborative clinical decision between the client (who knows his/her body the most) and I, the prescriber who knows medications best. I listen actively; may ask many questions; and provide client teaching, medication education and complementary/necessary talk-therapy (non-medication approaches and interventions) as needed.
