Great to meet you!

Hello my name is Michael Sturgill, and I am a certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered mental health care across the lifespan. With a strong clinical foundation and a genuine passion for helping individuals achieve emotional wellness, Michael specializes in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, and ADHD.

Committed to creating a supportive and nonjudgmental environment, I believe in partnering with patients to develop individualized treatment plans that may include medication management, supportive therapy, and lifestyle interventions. I prioritize open communication, education, and empowering patients to take an active role in their mental health journey. At Rise Above Mental and Behavioral Health, I currently provide telehealth services — increasing access to care and meeting patients where they are. In-person services are planned for the future.

My approach to therapy

I provide personalized, evidence-based mental health care with a focus on compassion, collaboration, and respect. My goal is to create a comfortable, judgment-free space where patients feel heard and empowered to achieve meaningful improvements in their mental well-being.

What you can expect from me

At Rise Above Mental and Behavioral Health, the first appointment is focused on getting to know you and understanding your unique experiences, concerns, and goals. This initial evaluation typically lasts 60–90 minutes and provides an opportunity to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

During your first visit, we will discuss:

  • Your current symptoms and concerns
  • Mental health history, including any previous diagnoses or treatment
  • Medical history and current medications
  • Family mental health history
  • Social, occupational, and lifestyle factors that may impact your well-being
  • Treatment goals and expectations

You can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where your concerns are heard and respected. Questions are encouraged, and decisions about treatment are made collaboratively. If medication is appropriate, options, benefits, risks, and alternatives will be thoroughly discussed. Recommendations may also include therapy, lifestyle modifications, or additional resources to support your overall wellness.

By the end of the appointment, you will have a clear understanding of the next steps in your care and a treatment plan designed to help you move toward your mental health goals.

Our goal is simple: to listen, understand, and work together to help you achieve lasting mental wellness
