Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Dr. Michael Trexler (he/him), and I’m glad you’re here. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with nearly 20 years of experience helping individuals work through trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in understanding the connection between your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. I integrate a variety of evidence-based treatments, including EMDR, CBT, schema therapy, emotion-focused therapy, the Gottman Method, mindfulness-based approaches, and vibroacoustic therapy, to support your unique needs.

I hold licenses in Indiana, Georgia, Florida, and Virginia and am nationally certified in clinical mental health counseling and supervision. Alongside my clinical work, I serve as a professor in counselor education. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply ready to grow, I’m here to support you with care, insight, and evidence-based tools that honor your experience.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, respectful, and collaborative. I believe that healing begins in a safe, supportive relationship where you can feel seen and understood without judgment. Together, we’ll explore how your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships are connected and how they may be affecting your well-being. I tailor treatment to each individual, drawing from evidence-based approaches like EMDR, CBT, schema therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and mindfulness-based practices. I also offer vibroacoustic therapy and cranial electrotherapy stimulation to support nervous system regulation and mind-body healing.

I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, relational distress, identity development, and life transitions. Whether you’re coming to therapy for healing, clarity, or growth, my goal is to help you reconnect with your strengths and move toward the life you want to live.

What you can expect from me

I aim to create a calm, grounded, and affirming space where you can explore your story at your own pace. My priority is to foster a therapeutic environment that feels safe, collaborative, and empowering—where you're not just heard, but truly understood. Whether we're working through trauma, anxiety, relationship patterns, or emotional overwhelm, our work together will focus on helping you gain clarity, build emotional resilience, and reconnect with your strengths and values. I often help clients develop insight into unhelpful patterns, improve self-awareness and self-compassion, strengthen relationships, and build practical coping tools that support lasting change. My approach is rooted in respect for your lived experience, and I’ll work with you to set goals that feel meaningful, attainable, and aligned with who you are and where you want to go.
