Great to meet you!

My professional background includes a variety of occupations before returning to college at age 46, where I developed my passion for learning researched, evidence based, therapeutic interventions to assist people in the difficult and rewarding process of self-discovery a.k.a. psychotherapy.

I have experience working with people diagnosed with major depression, anxiety, panic, PTSD, bipolar I&II, ADHD, insomnia, and personality disorders using acceptance commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy and aspects of internal family systems therapy.

I have specialized training to help people experiencing relationship problems, grief, life transitions, low self-esteem, work stress, and domestic violence. Also, I have completed level 2 Gottman Method for Couples Counseling. I utilize Gottman online assessment tools and worksheets.

Although, I am a woman in my 50s, I have faced many of life's challenges, including divorce, toxic work environments, cancer treatment, being a working, single mother while attending college full time, financial struggles, and more. I made it through hard times with help from great therapists.

My practice is LGBTQIA affirming and inclusive.

A bit about my approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is that clients are experts about their lives. It is my job to learn about how a client perceives themself, other people, the world around them, and what about those narratives they would like to change. It is important that I practice therapy with warmth, empathy, acceptance and positive regard for each individual.

What you can expect from our first session

Clients have told me that our therapy sessions offered them new perspectives about past and present experiences, education about emotions, the brain, and how the brain and body work together to create a reality, self-discovery, ability to set boundaries, new coping strategies, self-forgiveness, decrease or obtain from alcohol/substances, and assist them in setting obtainable goals.

However, the rewards of therapy require the uncomfortable practice of change between sessions, and for some, completing homework between sessions, adding a support group and/or working with a psychiatrist for medication management.
