Great to meet you!

I received my Bachelors of Social Work in 1987 from University of Central Florida. My early years began in child abuse and prevention. After 16 years of marriage and 3 children later, I found myself suddenly widowed at 37. My passion turned to raising my 3 small children and navigating the loss of my husband and their father. I went back to school at 45 and received my Masters in Social Work so that I could one day do exactly what I am doing today. What was "normal" was never "normal" again. I began my new journey as a therapist in a Christian Counseling Center for 7.5 years. One day I decided it was time to venture out of my comfort zone again. In August of 2019 I opened Intercoastal Counseling. It continues to be an honor and privilege to be a part of my client's journey as they navigate challenges, relationships and life. It's never a coincidence who steps through my office door! I believe it is a divine appointment. I look forward to working with people of all ages (4-104) in a safe, private setting.

My approach to therapy

I have a very eclectic approach to therapy. I use an arsenal of tools and new information to help my clients of all ages. It is my job to equip my clients with new personal awareness, insight and information in order for them to better understand themselves, I look at patterns of relationships over three generations (Genogram) in a early session to gather more information in one session than a client could give me in 6 months of therapy. Together, we explore distorted thoughts and/or beliefs that were developed as a small child that have continued to define you today. Knowledge is Power! And, with New Awareness, comes Lasting Change!

What you can expect from me

Please join me on the journey of discovering and embracing your old self and radically creating your new self. Life is hard and we need a village to support us during difficult seasons or chapters! It is my goal as your therapist to initially meet you where you are; offer support, hear your heart and ingrained beliefs. Our treatment goals will be to develop a plan to move you from a place of loss, hurt, sadness, depression, loneliness, trauma, confusion, marriage difficulties, relationship issues, and inter generational challenges, to a place that creates a "new normal" in your life. Perhaps life suddenly changed with a significant unexpected loss?! The ability to reverse old, distorted beliefs about oneself is not only empowering but, life changing! I look forward to coming alongside you as we journey to create a new path for your life.
