Great to meet you!

Are you tired of the “typical” provider, or feel someone “different or unique” would be a better fit for you and your mental health needs? Well then, I may be the provider for you.

I pride myself on differing from the norm. Approachable, empathetic, extremely open-minded, easy to talk to and weird are some of the ways I’ve been described in the past by previous patients.

I am particularly proud of being called “weird”.

Like a snowflake or the colors of the changing leaves in autumn, I believe every person is unique and different. I embrace and celebrate individuality. Whether it’s different lifestyles, choices in music or color of your hair (mine is ever changing), I value and respect each individual for who they are and not who society thinks they should be. I welcome those of alternative lifestyles or alternative ways of thinking, and you will find no judgment or criticism. If you embrace ideals that fall outside societies’ perception of “normal”, you can be assured that ALL are welcome here.

A bit about my approach to therapy

Treating my patients as a “whole” instead of a mental health diagnosis allows me to better connect with and understand them. Western medicine is extremely effective, but I believe that adopting a more holistic approach has its benefits as well. My goal is to improve the overall quality of your life.

I am a strong proponent of integrative psychiatry and I utilize Western medicine along with more holistic, herbal and animal assisted solutions to achieve treatment goals. Offering both therapy and medication management, I’m able to closely monitor progress and make adjustments quickly, if needed. I incorporate numerous types of therapy into my practice, including as:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Mindfulness

Herbal & natural remedies and supplements

Animal assisted therapy

ADHD Treatment and Assessment

Life Coaching

What you can expect from our first session

After teaching college for 20 years, I changed careers because I wanted an opportunity to help individuals with mental health issues who didn’t know where to begin, felt embarrassed or that they would be judged negatively. The lessons I’ve learned as professor and provider are what I use to drive my practice now. Excellent listening skills mixed with the ability to communicate complex concepts in an understandable way is key to my core beliefs in practice. My goal has always been to develop lasting relationships with my patients.

Patients can expect a collaborative experience with someone who truly listens to their needs and concerns, as well as the assurance that I will do everything in my power to ensure you understand what medications do to your body and the rationale behind their selection. I honestly value everything that you bring to each appointment. I do not "throw scripts" at people and work to create a treatment plan that is effective and agreed upon, while being as conservative with medications as possible.
