Great to meet you!

I have been helping people for the last 18 years in an out-patient setting and currently specialize in Christian Counseling and Couples Therapy. My first love as a therapist is helping couples rediscover a loving bond using a powerful treatment approach called Emotionally Focused Therapy. After that, I just love sitting with my clients and deeply listening to their stories. It's truly amazing how listening alone creates very significant shifts in my clients' lives. If you choose to work with me in therapy, I will gently help you to see where you are stuck in life, and then we will consider new ways of looking at things that can lead to positive changes in your life. I don't rush to "fix" my clients, nor do I approach every client in the same way. I draw on decades of experience in the mental health field using a variety of approaches in a unique way with each and every person. I have experienced freedom and peace through my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and believe that He is a healer of broken hearts and lives.

My approach to therapy

My approach is a combination of CBT, Attachment Theory, Schema Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy which essentially means that we will uncover the beliefs formed in childhood that drive your perceptions, behaviors, and outcomes in life-and you aren't even aware of it most of the time. I help you to understand what we call the relationship blueprint that forms in childhood. For instance, some people believe that they have to please everyone in order to be accepted, wanted, or loved. That is a good example of a relationship blueprint that can cause some problems in life. We as humans take these beliefs for granted assuming that our thoughts about life are true, but the reality is that our beliefs need to be recognized and considered. In the above example, we would explore when the belief formed in your life, how it has impacted you, and if there are healthier, more adaptive ways to look at things.

What you can expect from me

Many clients gain valuable insight into themselves that leads to changes in their lives and relationships. Some clients come away with a stronger relationship with God and greater peace with themselves (self-acceptance). If my client allows for it, therapy can also challenge you at times to consider the part that you have to play in your problems (hint: it's usually more than you realize!) You will never be judged, but you may be challenged! You may learn how to "be the thinker of your thoughts" by challenging your negative self-talk; learn new ways to communicate with your partner that will greatly improve your relationship or practice new skills and tools to manage stress, grieve, resolve conflict, or just get through a very difficult time in your life. Hopefully, above all, you will feel a sense of support in your time with me in therapy.
