Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you’re used to holding things together on your own. The first session is a space for you to begin sharing your story at your own pace — there is no pressure to have the “right” words or to disclose everything at once.
We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what feels most important right now, and what you hope will be different in your life as a result of therapy. I’ll ask thoughtful questions to understand your experiences, patterns, relationships, and the context that has shaped you — including any past experiences or trauma that may still be impacting you today.
You can expect me to be warm, present, and engaged, while also direct and insight-oriented. My goal is to help you feel safe, understood, and grounded while beginning to identify meaningful areas for change. If helpful, we may also discuss immediate tools for managing overwhelming emotions or stress.
We’ll also talk about how I work, what therapy with me will look like, and collaborate on goals so our work feels intentional and aligned with what you need.
Most importantly, the first session is about connection. A strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change, and this is our opportunity to begin building that together.
You don’t have to prepare anything in advance — just come as you are.
