Great to meet you!

I am currently not accepting new clients but Headway has many therapists in my area who are available to help such as Paula Schaaf.

Helping children and their families break dysfunctional generational patterns and move forward through past trauma is the reason I became a therapist. In my practice, I provide the time and space my clients need to learn more about themselves, while also learning skills to empower healing and self-care. I help children, adolescents, and adults to identify and improve their feelings and symptoms related to anxiety, anger, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, trauma, and grief.

The best way to reach a child is through play, but I’ll let you in on a secret, play therapy is for adults, too. The inner child is within us all. However, each individual is unique, so I use integrated therapies such as play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychoeducation to help my clients help themselves.

I greatly enjoy people and working with diverse populations, including different races and ethnicities, and those in the LGBTQ+ community. It would be my privilege to help you and/or your family on your journey to healthy mental health. Additionally, my school counseling experience enables me to assist families in supporting their child's educational needs.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach draws strongly from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which addresses how our thoughts affect our emotions and our experiences. CBT can be used in both talk therapy (psychotherapy) and play therapy, which is what I use most with children and teens. These therapies help clients process why they feel the way they do, and to build skills which help them feel better.

What you can expect from me

I help clients and families who are trying to navigate life while struggling with anxiety, ADHD, and past trauma. Together, we make goals and identify tangible steps that can be taken so my clients can help themselves. Working through emotions and learning new strategies helps my clients not only to cope, but to thrive.
