Great to meet you!

Hi!

I’m Mitzy Ruelas (she/her/ella), a bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #158894) based in San Diego, offering online therapy to adults throughout California. I’m so glad you’re here—choosing to care for yourself is a meaningful and courageous step.

I commonly support clients experiencing anxiety, attachment and inner child wounds, relationship challenges, depression, low self-esteem, codependency, emotional overwhelm, and avoidance. I specialize in intergenerational trauma, Latinx/e therapy, and I am trained in Brainspotting (a trauma-informed, neurobiological based therapy).

My approach to therapy

My approach is integrative, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive, honoring the mind–body connection. I draw from attachment theory, somatic experiencing, narrative therapy, liberation psychology, and relational trauma work, while also incorporating humor, metaphors, and personalismo.

What you can expect from me

One thing you should know about working with me is that I prioritize the therapeutic relationship. Without a trusting therapeutic relationship, it is nearly impossible for clients to feel safe doing the work. So in our first session, getting to know each other is at the center.

Of course, we'll go over consent forms, what you'd like to heal towards, and then it turns into a space where I can listen to your story and you can ask questions. During the first couple of sessions, I want to learn about how you became you, how your worldview developed, and what your nervous system has gone through.
