Compassionate, Client-Centered Mental Health Care

*

You should know that my priority is you—your comfort, your healing, and your sense of hope. Beginning care with a new provider can feel overwhelming, but I want you to feel supported from the very start. I am Dr. Modupe “Mary” Okonofua, a dual-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Walden University, and I also teach in graduate-level psychiatric nursing programs at two universities. This work keeps me connected to the latest research, best practices, and compassionate approaches to mental health care.

While my education and experience guide my practice, what matters most is how you feel in our work together. Many people come to me after feeling unheard or dismissed in past healthcare experiences. With me, you will be listened to, respected, and cared for with genuine compassion. I believe in walking alongside you—not in front of you—as you move toward recovery.

I care for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults facing challenges such as depression, anxiety, trauma, sleep problems, attention and focus difficulties, mood swings, and emotional stress. My approach is gentle and thoughtful, adjusting treatment slowly and safely so it feels right for you.

You do not have to face emotional pain alone. I am accepting new patients, and I am here to support your healing and help you rediscover meaning, balance, and joy in your life.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is gentle, thoughtful, and centered entirely around you. I believe that healing begins with being truly heard, so I take the time to listen to your concerns, understand your life experiences, and learn what matters most to you. My goal is to create a warm, supportive environment where you feel safe sharing your thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment.

I practice with a philosophy of “start low and go slow,” meaning I introduce treatments carefully and intentionally to ensure your comfort and safety. I want every step of your care plan to feel manageable and aligned with your needs. I believe in partnering with you—working together to build insight, develop coping tools, and find the right treatment approach for your unique situation.

Because I have experience caring for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, I tailor each treatment plan to the individual in front of me. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep difficulties, mood instability, or challenges with attention and focus, my goal is to guide you with compassion, patience, and clinical expertise.

*

Above all, I want you to feel supported and empowered. You deserve a provider who truly cares about your well-being, and I am here to walk with you every step of the way.

What you can expect from me

During your first session, you can expect a calm, welcoming, and judgment-free space where you can speak openly about what you’ve been experiencing. My goal is to help you feel comfortable right away, so we begin by talking about what brought you here, what you’ve been struggling with, and what you hope to change or improve. You are free to share at your own pace—there is no pressure and no rush.

*

Together, we will review your medical and mental health history, explore your symptoms, and begin identifying the goals that matter most to you. I will take time to answer your questions, explain treatment options in a clear and supportive way, and make sure you understand every step of the process. By the end of the session, you will have a sense of direction and a plan tailored specifically to your needs.

*

Most importantly, you can expect to feel listened to, respected, and supported. My hope is that you leave our first meeting feeling understood—and hopeful about the path ahead. You are not alone, and this first session is the beginning of a safe and empowering journey toward healing.
