Great to meet you!

I am a person with lived experience. I am a licensed psychotherapist and a certified addictions counselor in the State of Iowa. I specialize in the best practice treatment of trauma-related diagnoses/responses (this includes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy DBT, mindfulness-based meditation and trauma-informed yoga). Over the past twenty years, I have engaged in psychotherapy with individuals and groups as well as addiction counseling within residential and outpatient treatment settings.

I am an educator and advocate (as a former adjunct instructor at the graduate level and presenter at state conferences). And while I have provided clinical supervision to mental health providers and addiction counselors, it is my role as a therapist with individuals that I find to be the most meaningful. To me, it is sacred work.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is one of warmth and respectful curiosity. I seek to know and understand so that I may offer support, psychoeducation, and/or alternative perspectives. I believe that personal empowerment is one of the greatest gifts of therapy. It is for this reason that I do not tell individuals what to do. Instead I am a steady presence as individuals grow toward their highest selves.

What you can expect from me

At the first session, we can get to know one another. I will answer questions about my education, theoretical orientation and the therapeutic process. I will ask light questions. If the client chooses to continue (and this is important), we can begin the biopsychosocial assessment. Please know that clients may pass on any questions and there is no pressure. It is the client who sets the pace.
