Great to meet you!

Looking for a therapist is a brave, powerful, and a strong first step in the journey toward feeling better. It’s awesome that you’re here! Now, whether you began this process to focus on one thing in particular or to talk about general day-to-day challenges, it's important to remember that you get to be the director of this journey.

I became passionate about social work in my final year of undergraduate school where I wrote my thesis on racism and incarceration. This passion led me to working in a non-profit organization where I worked with un-housed veterans. This work has allowed me to take a glimpse into the inner workings of nonprofits, homelessness, government involvement, and crisis management.

Throughout my postgraduate education and experience, I learned that the therapy space is a perfect place to exercise my passion for social justice. As someone who deeply values inclusivity, radical change, and sex positivity, I want the space I create in therapy to reflect the nuanced world of today. If some of your goals include finding out more about yourself and the way you function in the world, creating sustainable behavioral change, breaking away from conventional systems, or finding more fulfilling interpersonal relationships, I would be a great fit for you on this journey.

My approach to therapy

Here’s what you can expect working with me. I am well-versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, which are both evidenced-based practices that focus on how changing our thought patterns and behavior can influence our day-to-day feelings and experiences. In addition, I have cultivated years of using different modalities such as motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and crisis management. I recently became certified in EMDR and have thoroughly enjoyed working with clients using this modality.

I have a rich experience practicing with all different racial and gender identifying populations. As a white cis-woman, I recognize how my own life experiences and privileges might vary from someone of a different race, religion, or gender identity. I prioritize and value continuing my education on the historical and contemporary contexts of populations that diverge from my own demographic, and I look forward to bringing that knowledge into the therapy room with you.

I also like to incorporate the practice of mindfulness and somatic therapy - I want to make sure clients feel connected to their body throughout our sessions. This practice is crucial to gain a full understanding of how we function. I am also a big believer in approaching every client with warmth, humility, and a healthy dose of humor. There is nothing like a good laugh to break up some tension.

What you can expect from me

I would love to get started with you on this wonderful journey you're on. I am happy to provide a free 15-minute consultation to talk more about what you're looking for, and how we might be a good fit. Congratulations on taking this important step towards taking back who you are!
