Great to meet you!

I'm a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in adult and geriatric psychiatry, with more than 20 years of experience caring for people from a wide range of backgrounds and in a variety of clinical settings. I completed my residency in general psychiatry at the University of Texas at Houston in 2007 and a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the University of Miami in 2008. Over the course of my career I've held both clinical and leadership roles, which has given me broad experience diagnosing and treating many different mental health conditions. My clinical interests include treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and ADHD. I'm an active member of the American Psychiatric Association and the North Carolina Psychiatric Association, and I'm committed to providing thoughtful, compassionate care that supports my patients throughout their mental health journey.

My approach to therapy

I believe effective psychiatric care begins with listening and understanding each patient as an individual, not just a diagnosis. My approach is compassionate and collaborative: I work together with patients, and with their families when that's appropriate and welcome, to develop personalized, evidence-based treatment plans. Depending on what fits your situation and goals, that may involve medication, psychotherapy, lifestyle recommendations, or some combination of these. My aim is always to create a supportive environment where you feel heard, respected, and comfortable taking an active part in your own care.

What you can expect from me

Your first visit is an opportunity to talk openly about what you've been experiencing and what you're hoping to achieve through treatment. I'll take time to get to know you, understand your concerns, and learn about your mental health and medical history, including any previous treatments, medications, and other factors that may be affecting your well-being. We may also talk about your mood, anxiety, sleep, energy, relationships, and how you're functioning day to day. From there, we'll work together to develop a personalized treatment plan that makes sense for you. Most importantly, this is a judgment-free space where you can feel heard, respected, and supported.
