Great to meet you!

Hello! I'm Nahema and I’m a Licensed Social Worker with a Master’s degree in Social Work from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Rutgers University. Over the course of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with teens, adults, couples, and individuals from many different backgrounds and walks of life.

I especially enjoy working with men, teens, and older adults—people who may not always feel comfortable talking about what they’re going through or who have been used to simply “dealing with it” on their own. I work with clients navigating stress, anxiety, life transitions, grief, motivation, relationships, emotional challenges, and substance use, among other concerns.

I also really enjoy working with couples. I have Level 1 training through the Gottman Institute and help couples better understand their patterns, communicate more openly, and work through conflict in a way that feels productive and respectful.

Most importantly, I want my clients to feel comfortable being themselves in therapy. You don’t have to have the right words or know exactly what you need when you walk through the door. We can figure that out together.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy should feel like a place where you can be honest, feel understood, and not have to worry about being judged. My style is warm and supportive, but I’m also direct when I think it can be helpful.

I take a collaborative approach, which means we work together to understand what’s going on and figure out what will actually be helpful for you. I use evidence-based approaches and tailor therapy to each person rather than believing there is one right way to do things.

Sometimes therapy is about learning new coping skills or understanding your emotions. Other times, it may be about relationships, communication, life changes, motivation, or simply having a space to sort through everything that feels overwhelming.

With couples, I use Gottman-informed strategies to help partners understand their conflict patterns, communicate more effectively, and reconnect. I’m not there to take sides—I’m there to help both people feel heard and understood.

My goal is for therapy to feel both meaningful and practical, so that the work we do together doesn’t just stay in the therapy room.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is really about getting to know each other and giving you a chance to feel out whether therapy with me feels like a good fit.

We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what has been going on in your life, and what you’re hoping will change. I’ll ask questions to better understand your experiences, relationships, and goals, but there will also be plenty of space for you to share whatever feels most important to you.

You don’t need to come in with everything figured out or know exactly what you want to work on. Sometimes just knowing that something doesn’t feel right is enough to start.

My hope is that you leave our first session feeling comfortable, heard, and like you have someone in your corner. From there, we’ll work together to figure out where to go next.
