Great to meet you!

My name is Najm Zaman, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges, heal from trauma, and build lasting resilience!

My professional journey spans over 15 years across clinical practice, healthcare operations, and community leadership. I hold both a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Adelphi University. Throughout my career, I have served in diverse roles—from supervising foster care programs to leading community-based non-profit organizations and wellness initiatives. This background allows me to understand my clients not just in isolation, but within the broader context of their environments, families, and communities.

While I work with a wide range of individuals, my primary areas of specialization include:

  • Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders
  • Anxiety and Mood Management
  • Life Transitions and Identity Development
  • Youth, Young Adult, and Family Dynamics
  • Relationships and Breakups

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic style is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and authentic connection. I view therapy as a partnership; you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to provide the clinical expertise, tools, and safe environment to help you achieve your goals.

I operate from a strengths-based, trauma-informed perspective, meaning we won't just focus on symptoms or diagnoses, but on the inherent resilience and resources you already possess. Because no two people are alike, I integrate several evidence-based modalities tailored to your unique needs:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): To explore and reframe the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
  • Systems Theory: To examine how your environment, relationships, and societal structures impact your mental well-being.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): To help you uncover practical, actionable steps toward the future you want to build.

My approach is conversational, grounded, and entirely free of judgment. We will go at your pace, balancing deep, meaningful healing with practical strategies you can use in your day-to-day life.

What you can expect from me

Taking the step to start therapy can bring up a mix of emotions, so my primary goal for our first session is to make you feel comfortable, safe, and heard.

Our initial meeting is essentially an intake and getting-to-know-you session. Here is what we will cover:

  • Setting the Foundation: We will review standard privacy policies, confidentiality, and boundaries to ensure you feel secure in our therapeutic space.
  • Sharing Your Story: I will invite you to share what brings you to therapy at this specific moment in your life, as well as any relevant history you feel comfortable disclosing.
  • Goal Setting: We will begin to outline what success looks like for you. Whether you have a crystal-clear objective or just a vague feeling that "something needs to change," we will work together to define our roadmap.
  • Mutual Assessment: This session is also an opportunity for you to see how it feels to work with me. You can ask me questions about my background, philosophy, or the therapeutic process.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you walk through the door. Come exactly as you are please!
