Great to meet you!

I am Nakia N. Thomas, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who believes healing happens when people feel seen, safe, and understood—not judged or rushed. I deeply committed to helping people reconnect—with themselves, their relationships, and their sense of purpose. I work with clients who are tired of holding everything together, struggling to express emotions, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, anxiety, trauma, and identity concerns. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of who they are outside of the roles they’ve had to carry for others.

My approach to therapy

My work is grounded in cultural humility, emotional safety, and compassion. I understand how family history, identity, trauma, and systemic stress can shape how we show up in relationships. In our work together, you don’t have to be strong or have the right words—I’ll help you find them. Therapy is a collaborative space where healing happens through understanding, not pressure.

What you can expect from me

Starting therapy can feel intimidating—especially if you’re not sure what to say or what will happen. Your first session is not about having everything figured out. It’s about getting to know each other and creating a safe starting point. Your first session is a time to share what brought you to therapy at your own pace. You don’t need the “right words,” and you won’t be pressured to talk about anything you’re not ready to discuss. My role is to listen, ask gentle questions, and help you feel supported. You don’t need to be “ready,” strong, or have everything together to start therapy. Showing up is enough.
