Nancy Sherman

Hello. My Name is Nancy Sherman and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. My approach to therapy and my focus area of practice is from a trauma impact perspective. Trauma not only affects us individually but it also interferes with relationships with significant others, family members, and work colleagues.

My journey to becoming a therapist has included serving in the U.S. Army for 12 years followed by working in the banking industry before my mentor encouraged me to return to school to become a social worker. I obtained my B.S.W. from Pacific Lutheran University and my M.S.W. from Walla Walla University. I worked in Crisis Services as a Mental Health Professional before I began my career with the Department of Defense working with Active Duty soldiers in 2014. I have worked at Ft. Wainwright, AK and Ft. Campbell, KY.

My approach to therapy is Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) which recognizes the widespread impact of trauma on individuals' lives and emphasizes the need for treatment that is sensitive to the effects of trauma. This approach seeks to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel empowered and can work through their experiences in a way that promotes healing.

I generally ask clients to have the courage to challenge themselves to address the uncomfortable, painful, and sad events of their lives. I walk beside them on the journey to change.
