Great to meet you!

I have been a counselor in the field of social work since 2002. I have worn many hats and enjoyed each of them while learning along the way. I have been in private practice since 2019 and prior to that had experience in community mental health, oncology social work, crisis intervention, school social work and parenting education.

That range has taught me something important: people don't fit neatly into one category, and good therapy doesn't treat them as if they do.I work with adults and older adults across Kentucky. I see individuals, couples, and families, often people dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, or major life transitions. I also have genuine experience with clients navigating chronic illness, infertility, postpartum challenges, end-of-life concerns, and LGBTQ+ identity. I'm affirming, direct, and I ask a lot of questions, because understanding your particular situation matters more than applying a formula.

My approach to therapy

I take a holistic approach to therapy in assessing for cognitive, behavioral, trauma, medical/somatic, family system and family of origin patterns that relate to a clients current level of functioning. I draw from CBT, trauma-focused methods, and solution-focused techniques depending on what actually fits the person in front of me. I also pay attention to the body, family systems, and the broader context of someone's life, because anxiety that looks like anxiety is sometimes grief, and grief that looks like grief is sometimes something else entirely.

I don't believe therapy has to drag on indefinitely to work. Some clients need a focused stretch of sessions to get unstuck. Others benefit from longer-term support through a complicated season. We'll figure out what makes sense for you.

What you can expect from me

A gentle getting to know you and assessment of the above mentioned things. I think it's important for the client to be able to ask questions, understand how the therapy process works and all that's related. I'll ask enough background questions to understand your situation, but at your pace. Some people want to dive in right away; others need a little time to feel settled. Both are fine.
