Great to meet you!

Map & Lantern Counseling is about helping your chart your path forward through the unknown and sometimes treacherous waters of life. I want you to feel as if you are embarking on an adventure where along the way you obtain the best tools for you to conquer and overcome. I have been in the social service industry working with non-profit organizations for over 14 years as a social worker. I have worked in therapeutic foster care, homeless services, and residential inpatient treatment for mental health and substance abuse disorder. My experience working in community mental health with both men and adolescents, veterans, LGBTQIA+ and an extensive background in serving individuals struggling with addiction - I am confident in being able to assist with helping you navigate and achieve your goals.

My approach to therapy

I like to tell my clients that they are driving the bus, and I am here for the ride! YOU chart your own course; I am merely the compass that helps give direction while you continue to take the necessary steps to get to the X on the map! I focus on teaching coping skills for emotional regulation, mindfulness, radical acceptance, etc. I want to help you reframe negative thoughts, be aware of cognitive distortions, be a soundboard for difficult situations, provide perspective and resources, and any psychoeducation that may be of benefit. As the professional relationship continues, I have found my clients and I feel comfortable to have direct conversations. Some of them have called me a "straight shooter".

What you can expect from me

During our first meeting it is imperative for us to build rapport! This may look like playing games, finding common interests, or sharing playlists. I want to make sure you are feeling comfortable, heard, and feeling a connection. This is also an opportunity for us to set boundaries and expectations of what our therapeutic relationship will look like and even begin setting some minor goals for your individualized treatment plan. I want our time together to be warm, inviting, and safe!
