Great to meet you!

Taking the step to seek therapy takes courage, and choosing the right therapist matters just as much as the decision to go. I'm Nicole Rich, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over twenty years of experience helping children, teens, adolescents, and adults in the Kansas City area live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

I've spent the last fifteen years at my private practice, Metis Counseling, and before that I worked across a range of settings including in-home counseling, group facilitation, and case management with organizations like the Child Abuse Prevention Association, Synergy Services, and Healthy Families Counseling and Support. That breadth of experience means I've sat across from people at some of their most difficult moments, and I've learned what it actually takes to help someone move forward.

I hold a Master of Arts from the University of Saint Mary and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Park University. I work with people navigating depression, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce, marital conflict, low self-esteem, and emotion regulation; whatever is making everyday life feel heavier than it should.

My approach to therapy

I believe the single most important ingredient in effective therapy is the relationship between client and counselor. Without trust, without safety, without genuine connection, even the best techniques fall flat. So before anything else, I focus on building a space where you feel truly heard, respected, and supported.

From there, my work is collaborative and practical. I meet you where you are and help you explore new ways of understanding and addressing your challenges, not by handing you a script, but by working alongside you to develop the real skills and insights you need to take ownership of your own wellbeing. I'm passionate about this work, and that energy shows up in every session.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is about getting to know each other. I'll ask questions, listen carefully, and start to understand what's brought you in and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. There's no pressure to have it all figured out, many people come in feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start, and that's completely okay.

My style is warm, genuine, and grounded. I want you to leave that first session feeling like you made the right call, like this is a place you can come back to. We'll start building a foundation of trust from day one, and from there, we'll take it at your pace.
