Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Nicolette Makedon, LMHC, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor passionate about helping adults navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence, resilience, and self-understanding. I specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, and unhelpful thinking patterns.

My approach to therapy

I earned my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Queens College and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Adelphi University. I am primarily trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and hold a primary certification in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) through the Albert Ellis Institute. I also integrate evidence-based techniques from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs and goals. Together, these frameworks give us powerful, precise tools for change.

My style is collaborative, direct, and grounded in compassion. I work towards cultivating a safe and empowering Telehealth environment by approaching clients with warmth and compassion.

What you can expect from me

I believe therapy works best when it feels like a collaborative partnership. My approach is direct, empathetic, and nonjudgmental, and I often incorporate appropriate humor to help clients feel comfortable and authentically themselves. I strive to create a supportive space where clients feel empowered to challenge unhelpful patterns, build practical coping skills, and make meaningful, lasting changes.

I have experience providing therapy to adults in individual, family, group, and couples settings. I currently offer virtual individual therapy through a secure Telehealth platform, making it easier for clients to access care from the comfort of their own space.

We begin with a brief intro call, which is a low-pressure chance to connect and make sure this feels like the right fit before we commit. The first full session is about getting oriented. We'll talk about what's brought you here, what you're hoping changes, and start identifying the specific patterns — in thinking, in relationships, in behavior — that we'll work on together. By the end, you'll have a clear sense of what the work will look like. I'm looking forward to speaking with you!
