Great to meet you!

I'm Dr. Nima Jahanforouz, a dual board-certified psychiatrist in both Child & Adolescent and General Psychiatry, and the founder of Forouz Psychiatry. I see patients of all ages, from young children through adulthood, and find it deeply meaningful to be able to support families and individuals across life's different stages.

My training includes a fellowship at Harvard's Boston Children's Hospital, residency at the University of Arizona, my medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences, and a degree in Psychobiology from UCLA. Before becoming a psychiatrist, I worked as an ABA therapist and parent management training instructor — which means my care goes well beyond prescribing medication. I help families understand what's driving certain behaviors and build practical strategies they can actually use at home.

I believe good psychiatric care has to look at the whole person — not just symptoms, but the biological, psychological, and social forces shaping someone's wellbeing. My own multicultural background deeply informs how I practice: I try to stay attuned to the role that identity, language, and life experience play in mental health, and I work to make care feel accessible and judgment-free for everyone who walks through the door.

My approach to therapy

I take a holistic view of mental health, meaning I don't look at symptoms in isolation. I consider the biological, psychological, and social factors that shape how someone is feeling and functioning — family dynamics, life stressors, cultural background, physical health — because all of it matters.

Care at Forouz Psychiatry is always collaborative. I work closely with patients, and when appropriate, with families and caregivers, to build treatment plans that feel realistic and meaningful for that person's actual life. For some, that includes medication. For others, it's behavioral strategies, psychoeducation, or coordination with other providers. Often it's a combination — tailored to what makes sense for that individual.

Symptom relief matters — and it's often where we start. But my goal is to understand what's driving those symptoms, so that the relief we work toward is lasting, not just temporary.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a thorough evaluation — but one where you'll also feel like you're having a real conversation, not just answering a checklist. I want you to feel comfortable sharing what's brought you in, at whatever pace feels right. Initial evaluations are 60 minutes for adults and 75 minutes for children and adolescents, reflecting the additional time needed to gather a full picture when families are involved.

I'll ask about your history, your life, and what you're hoping to get from care. One session rarely tells the whole story — it often takes more than one visit to develop a clear picture of what's going on, and that's intentional. Rushing to a diagnosis or treatment plan too early wouldn't serve you well.

What you can expect from the very first appointment is to feel heard, respected, and like an active part of your own care — not a passive recipient of it.
