Great to meet you!

Sometimes you know exactly what the problem is. Other times, you simply know that something feels off—you’re overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck in the same patterns, or finding that the ways you used to cope no longer work.

I’m Nita Smith Scott, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than 25 years of experience working with adults, couples, families, and individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, stress, and major life transitions.

My work is grounded in the belief that therapy is not simply about solving the problem in front of you. It’s also an opportunity to understand yourself more deeply: your patterns, relationships, emotions, and the experiences that have shaped how you move through the world.

My approach to therapy

I draw from psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy, Gestalt therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), DBT, CBT, and motivational interviewing. Together, we can explore both what is happening now and what may be underneath it.

I’m especially interested in helping clients recognize patterns that may have once served an important purpose but are no longer serving them. That might look like difficulty setting boundaries, managing anger, navigating relationships, tolerating difficult emotions, or repeatedly finding yourself in situations that leave you feeling stuck.

Therapy with me is collaborative and honest. I will offer support, but I won’t simply tell you what you want to hear. I’ll help you slow things down, look at what is really happening, and develop new ways of responding.

What you can expect from me

You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out.

We’ll begin by understanding what brought you to therapy and what you hope will be different. From there, we’ll create a treatment approach that fits your needs rather than forcing you into a predetermined formula.

My goal is for therapy to become a space where you can be curious about yourself without judgment—where difficult things can be examined, patterns can become clearer, and meaningful change can begin.

With more than two decades in the field, I bring experience, perspective, warmth, and a willingness to meet you where you are.
