Great to meet you!

I’m Norlan McKenzie, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving individuals impacted by domestic, sexual, and relational abuse. My work is grounded in steadiness, compassion, and the belief that healing is possible — even when it feels distant.

With British Caribbean roots and a life shaped by meaningful highs, difficult lows, and transformative new beginnings, I bring both depth and perspective into the therapy room. These experiences inform how I show up: present, calm, and able to sit with complexity without rushing it.

I am a survivor of domestic abuse. This lived experience deepens the work I do in ways that extend beyond clinical training alone. I understand trauma not just as a diagnosis, but as something that can quietly reshape your sense of safety, identity, and self-trust.

I know the internal push and pull — the part of you that wants to move forward, and the part that still feels guarded, uncertain, or bracing for harm. Because of this, you won’t have to explain every layer of that experience here. I can sit with it — without minimizing it, rushing it, or turning away.

My approach to therapy

My primary therapeutic approach is Internal Family Systems (IFS), a gentle and evidence-based model that helps you understand and care for the different “parts” of yourself. Together, we work to reduce internal conflict, build self-compassion, and strengthen your inner sense of stability and agency.

Since beginning my professional work in 2012 and earning both my Bachelor’s in Psychology and Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida, I have supported children, teens, and families across Florida and the Caribbean. I remain committed to ongoing education and evidence-based practices to ensure the care I provide is thoughtful, informed, and effective.

What you can expect from me

Many people who have experienced abuse worry about being judged, misunderstood, or pushed to talk about painful experiences before they feel ready.

In our work together, we move at a pace that feels safe and respectful for you. There is no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. My approach is grounded in connectedness, curiosity, compassion, and deep respect for your experiences.

Rather than forcing change or revisiting everything all at once, we gently explore the different parts of you that may be carrying pain, fear, anger, or self-doubt—parts that have been trying to cope, protect, and make sense of what happened.

As those parts begin to feel heard and understood, many people start to experience more calm, clarity, and trust in themselves. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting what happened. Often, it means learning how to relate to your experiences in a way that helps you feel more steady, more connected to yourself, and more able to move forward in your life.
