Great to meet you!

I'm Oscar McKinley, a doctoral-level therapist with 13 years of experience helping people cut through the noise and get to what's actually going on. I'm a Black man licensed in Kansas and Missouri, and I work with a wide range of people — individuals, couples, families, and children from infancy through adulthood. I'm trained in evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma, PCIT for parent-child relationships, CBT, Gestalt, and family systems therapy. My style is direct without being rigid, and warm without being soft. I earned my EdD from Nova Southeastern University and my master's from Liberty University. I believe that good therapy should feel like a real conversation, not a performance.

My approach to therapy

I start by listening — genuinely listening — before I bring in any framework. From there I draw on whichever approaches fit what you're actually dealing with. That might be CPT if trauma is at the core, CBT if thought patterns are getting in the way, Gestalt if you're disconnected from your own experience, or structural family work if the issue lives in the dynamics between people rather than any one person. I'm not dogmatic about method. I'm practical. I want to understand what's happening for you specifically, and then use the tools most likely to move the needle. Therapy with me will ask something of you — and I'll be in it with you the whole way.

What you can expect from me

Expect an honest conversation. I'll ask about what brought you in, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping is different this time. I won't rush you into a diagnosis or a treatment plan on day one — but I will give you a sense of how I work and whether this feels like a fit. First sessions are two-way: you're interviewing me as much as I'm getting to know you. By the end, you should have a clearer picture of where we'd start, and you should feel like someone actually heard you.
