Great to meet you!
I began my journey after graduating from Wellesley College in 1976, when I worked for several years on psychiatric inpatient units at three hospitals in the Boston area. This experience solidified my interest in mental health and my desire to become a licensed practitioner to provide services to people who were struggling with difficult emotions. Treating people with severe mental illness added to my skill set. I then studied at Boston College, graduating in 1980 with my Master of Social Work degree. For the next five years, I worked in emergency psychiatry in Boston for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. From 1986 to 2018, I worked in a public school system as a social worker, where I worked with children and their families. I also worked in private practice for many of those years. My own personal history has helped me gain knowledge and skill in treating mental illness, trauma, and addiction, especially in regard to how families are affected by these stressors.
