Great to meet you!

I want you to know a few things before we ever sit down together.

I won't judge you. Whatever you're carrying — painful experiences, difficult thoughts, choices you regret, struggles you're ashamed of — you can bring it into the room honestly. Therapy only works when people feel safe enough to speak the truth, and creating that kind of space is something I take seriously.

I'm not a passive therapist. I'll listen carefully, but I'll also be active — asking questions, offering observations, teaching skills, and helping you identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck. And I won't pretend to be the expert on your life. My role is to walk alongside you, help you clarify what matters most, and support you at a pace that feels respectful and manageable.

I've spent over 25 years in behavioral health as a clinician, supervisor, and clinical director — from a faith-based agency in New England to leading clinical services in Arizona for 12 years, to counseling at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. I now own a private practice in Sahuarita, Arizona.

My path to this work wasn't only academic. Growing up with family conflict, loss, addiction, depression, and anxiety gave me genuine empathy for people who are struggling. In 2025 I was diagnosed with cancer, completed treatment, and am now cancer free — an experience that deepened my understanding of what it means to face something that reshapes your sense of control and your vision of the future.

If faith is important to you, it's welcome here. I've been a person of faith throughout my life and work comfortably with people across a wide range of spiritual backgrounds, including those navigating doubt or transition.

I approach every client with curiosity. Experience matters, but no amount of it replaces the need to truly listen to the person in front of me.

My approach to therapy

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and active. I tailor therapy to the person in front of me, taking into account your history, goals, values, and what you actually need to move forward.

Much of my work centers on helping clients change their relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions. Rather than being overwhelmed by them, you can learn to observe your internal experience with greater awareness and flexibility — creating space to respond intentionally rather than react automatically.

I don't see therapy as simply treating a diagnosis. I see it as working with you as a whole person — your strengths, fears, hopes, pain, values, and goals. My background in marriage and family therapy shapes how I work with individuals, recognizing that we are all shaped by our relationships, histories, and the systems around us.

The approaches that most influence my work are EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing — emphasizing awareness, compassion, practical skills, and meaningful action. Depending on what you're working through, we might focus on processing painful memories, understanding different parts of yourself, clarifying your values, calming your nervous system, or building concrete tools for daily life.

I'll listen carefully, but I'll also ask questions, offer honest observations, and help you identify what's keeping you stuck. Therapy is most effective when both people in the room are genuinely engaged in the work.

I often think of therapy as having a guide on unfamiliar terrain. My role is to walk alongside you, help you clarify where you want to go, notice what's getting in the way, and support you in moving forward toward a life that feels more meaningful, stable, and fully yours.

What you can expect from me

Starting therapy can bring up a mix of hope and nervousness — and both are completely normal. The first session is designed to help you feel at ease while giving us a solid foundation to build from.

We'll begin by briefly reviewing confidentiality, then spend most of our time in conversation. I'll ask questions to understand what led you to seek counseling now, how your struggles are affecting your daily life, and what you hope will be different if therapy is successful.

I'll also want to learn about you more broadly — your background, significant experiences, relationships, strengths, and support system. I won't rush to a diagnosis or jump into problem-solving. The priority is understanding you clearly so we can build an effective, personal path forward together.

I'll explain how I work and answer any questions about my approach or what to expect. I want you to feel informed and comfortable, not like you're stepping into something unfamiliar.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you come in. Many people arrive feeling uncertain or overwhelmed — that's okay. We'll work through it together.

By the end of our first session, my hope is that you leave feeling heard, with a clearer sense of how therapy might help and enough comfort to come back.

If you're on the fence about reaching out, take that step anyway. I'll do my part to make sure it's a worthwhile one.
