Great to meet you!

I am a graduate of Arizona State University where I obtained my FNP, Psych NP, and Doctorate. For over 21 years I have worked with patients from various cultures, age groups, genders, sexual orientations, and races & ethnicities. My experience includes but is not limited to children ages 6-18 years old, adults through the age of 97 suffering from general and severe mental health disorders, developmental disabilities, trauma-induced mental health symptoms and substance abuse treatment. I have experience working with military veterans and their families as well. I have worked in various outpatient and inpatient settings, correctional settings, detoxes, and both substance abuse and mental health inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings.

My approach to therapy

I believe in the power of patients to heal themselves from the effects of trauma with proper guidance and support from therapists and medications where necessary. If you have chronic mental illness, I would like us to work together to optimize your potential and self-care. My approach to treatment is that we are a team and decisions are ultimately yours. I like to accept you where you are currently, and work together towards your specific goals. I am warm, accepting, affirming, and humorous. I believe it's my job to educate you with regards to medication management, lifestyle changes, coping skills, etc. to assist you in becoming healthier and treating yourself better. Communication is key in our relationship. I cannot help with something if I don't know about it.

What you can expect from me

I'm frequently told that I ask a lot of questions in my evals, and I do. I perform a comprehensive initial evaluation, because I can't help you without having as much detail about your symptoms, stressors, medical and mental health conditions and treatment histories. As a part of this review I will want to know what has and hasn't helped in the past and what you are hoping to get out of treatment. I ask about your childhood, developmental history, family growing up, education, employment history, current living and support conditions. I am aware that some people are very guarded. So if at any time you don't want to discuss a certain topic, please let me know and we'll move on.
