Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Priscilla Powers, a Licensed Professional Counselor, School Counselor, and Professor of Counseling with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education. I’ve spent my career supporting teenagers and families through some of life’s most challenging transitions—both in clinical settings and in schools—while also training the next generation of counselors.

With extensive experience in child, adolescent, and family dynamics, I specialize in helping clients navigate:

  • Relationship stress and conflict
  • Blended family and co-parenting challenges
  • Anxiety, overwhelm, and emotional burnout
  • Life transitions and identity shifts
  • Parenting concerns and child/adolescent behavior issues
  • School-related stress, academic pressures, and developmental concerns

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I integrate cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), family systems work, and trauma-informed care—tailored to each client’s unique needs. My goal is to create a supportive space where you feel understood, empowered, and equipped to make meaningful changes in your life.

If you’re seeking a counselor who combines therapeutic expertise, deep compassion, and decades of experience, I’m here to help.

My approach to therapy

My Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, strengths-based, and grounded in the belief that healing happens when clients feel genuinely understood, respected, and empowered. I work from a systems perspective—recognizing that our relationships, environments, and past experiences all shape how we show up in the world.

I integrate evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), family systems approaches, and trauma-informed practices. Rather than a one-size-fits-all method, I tailor each session to the client’s goals, readiness, and unique circumstances. My style is warm, direct when needed, and always rooted in compassion.

How I Work With Clients

I offer a calm, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their emotions, understand patterns, and develop healthier ways of coping. Early in the process, we identify what you want to change or strengthen, and we work together toward realistic, meaningful progress. I prioritize helping clients build emotional clarity, strengthen boundaries, and develop practical tools they can use outside of sessions.

I value collaboration—clients know their own lives best. My role is to guide, support, challenge gently, and help uncover new insights that lead to lasting change.

My goal is to help each client feel supported, capable, and connected to a stronger version of themselves—both in the therapy room and in their everyday life.

What you can expect from me

What to Expect in Your First Few Sessions

In our first few sessions, my goal is to help you feel comfortable and understood. During the initial appointment, we’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you’d like to work on, and any concerns you want me to know. There’s no pressure—we move at your pace.

As we continue, we’ll explore the patterns, stressors, and goals that matter most to you. Together, we’ll begin shaping a plan that fits your needs, whether that includes practical coping strategies, deeper insight, or support through a specific challenge.

Above all, you can expect a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel supported and where your voice guides the process.
