Great to meet you!

My name is Priscilla Wilson. I am a counselor education professor and a licensed professional counselor with the state of Alabama. I have a Masters in Counselor Education from Jacksonville State University and a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Alabama. Specific treatment areas include those experiencing depression, anxiety, or unmanaged stress, those making major adjustments, experiencing grief and loss, surviving various forms of trauma, exploring spirituality, who identify as LGBTQQI, older adults (65+), and working with women across the lifespan.

My approach to therapy

I tend to use cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) but I also modify my counseling approach to the client. I am holistic as incorporating the client and their environment helps me in considering the presenting problem, the client's background, and the client's supportive community. My goals for counseling include empowering the client, encouraging hope, and providing the client with realistic skills to assist them in managing the presenting issue.

What you can expect from me

I begin with an introduction of myself and my professional background. I ask clients if they have sought counseling and their experience. If this is their initial counseling session, I ask about their perceptions of counseling and provide them information about counseling and let them know that although this is a major step in their lives, it's also a self-care choice.

During the initial session, I gather information (intake and assessment) about the presenting issue and background. I summarize with how I can assist them and if it's a good fit for them, we'll set goals during the second session and proceed from there.
