Great to meet you!

I'm Dr. Qianhui Zhang, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a PhD in Counseling Psychology and over 15 years of experience working with young adults, students, and professionals. My practice has been primarily centered on international students, immigrant communities, and BIPOC professionals — people who are often navigating not just personal struggles, but the compounding weight of cultural transition, systemic stress, and identity in a world that wasn't always built with them in mind. I specialize in trauma and PTSD, anxiety and depression, intergenerational and complex trauma, attachment and intimacy difficulties, and the particular pressures that come with high-functioning burnout. I also work with eating disorders, grief and loss, relationship issues, identity development, and psychedelic preparation and integration. I offer individual psychotherapy, group therapy, psychological evaluation (including immigration evaluations), and consultation and training for therapists and other professionals. I conduct sessions in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, and see clients in person in Chicago as well as via telehealth across 43 PsyPact states.

My approach to therapy

My approach is trauma-informed, culturally attuned, identity-affirming, and relational at its core — which means I care deeply about who you are as a whole person, not just the symptoms you're presenting with. I draw from a range of evidence-based and body-centered modalities, including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS/parts work), somatic therapy, DBT, mindfulness-based approaches, and hypnotherapy. I'm also deeply influenced by Eastern healing traditions — Buddhist psychology, yoga, and meditation are not just credentials for me, but practices I've lived for over a decade and that genuinely shape how I understand healing. I hold a feminist-multicultural and interpersonal-process orientation, meaning I pay attention to how power, culture, and relationships have shaped your experience — and how they can become part of the healing. This work isn't about quick fixes or simply learning to cope better; it's about helping your nervous system find real ease, deepening your connection to yourself, and creating more freedom in how you live and love.

What you can expect from me

The first session is a space for us to begin getting to know each other — and for you to get a feel for what working together might be like. I'll ask about what's bringing you in, a bit of your history, and what you're hoping for from therapy. While there is some necessary structure to an initial meeting, I want you to know there's no pressure to share everything at once — we move at a pace that feels right for you. By the end of our time together, we'll begin to get a clearer sense of your goals and how I might best support you. Most importantly, I want you to leave feeling heard, not evaluated. You deserve a space where your full self — your history, your identities, your complexity — is welcomed. If something resonates, I'm glad you found your way here.
