Great to meet you!

I'm Dr. Rachel Kleinman, and I work with adults who are carrying more than they let on. That might look like anxiety that won't quiet down, a relationship pattern that keeps repeating itself, an ADHD diagnosis that finally explains a lot but still feels overwhelming to navigate, or the emotional weight of managing a health challenge alongside everything else. I also work with older adults navigating late-life transitions — retirement, grief, a new diagnosis, shifting family roles — because aging deserves thoughtful psychological support too.

I am direct and warm, and I don't believe in vague therapy. Sessions are purposeful: we understand what's happening beneath the surface, build real skills to manage what feels unmanageable, and create movement where you've felt stuck. My background also includes a deep respect for how family systems, cultural identity, and intergenerational patterns shape who we are today — and how we show up in our relationships.

My approach to therapy

I draw on CBT and DBT to give therapy a practical edge — so you leave sessions with tools that actually work in real life, not just insight that fades by Tuesday. I layer in psychodynamic and attachment-based thinking to help us understand the deeper patterns beneath the presenting problem: why certain relationships feel this way, why the same anxiety keeps showing up in different forms, what early experiences are still running the show.

I use genograms — family mapping tools — to help clients see their relational and emotional patterns in a way that is often striking and clarifying. I take a culturally sensitive approach and am thoughtful about the ways that identity, family history, and community context shape psychological experience. Whether you are managing a mood disorder, processing trauma, navigating ADHD in adulthood, or facing a medical diagnosis that has upended your sense of self, I meet you where you are.

What you can expect from me

Before we meet, I invite you to schedule a brief, complimentary phone consultation. It's a no-pressure conversation — a chance to ask questions, share what's going on, and see if we're a good fit. If we decide to move forward, I'll send you intake forms before our first session so I can prepare a personalized treatment questionnaire and a genogram tailored to you.

Our first session is an intake — not a plunge into the deep end. We map your history, clarify what's brought you in, and begin to understand the context around it. You'll leave with a clearer sense of where we're headed and what working together will look like. I aim for therapy to feel both meaningful and grounded from the very first meeting.
